The Pursuit of Dream

“The Pursuit of Dream” is a title of new Nia Dinata’s documentary film, tells about the struggle of five talented and smart students yet coming from poor families, to compete with other thousand students winning the scholarship. The film takes place in Malang East Java, centralized to five junior high students, namely Tika, Cahya, Aang, Rahmatillah and Nuning. The latest is just same with mine ^_^ hardly can't wait to see it. It’s said that the film will be screened in cultural centre and universities.

Similar documentary has been released on October 8, 2010 in US titled “Waiting for Superman” by filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth). The film follows the live of five ordinary pupils in different cities which are LA, Harlem, The Bronx, Washington DC and Redwood City. This film reveals the failure of US education system, giving statistic and correlation drop out level with high crime rates. Those who responsible for this mess, based on Guggenheim, are the teacher onion and bureaucracy. It seems that education problems not merely happened in developing country like Indonesia. Even USA, the super power country, suffers the same condition.

Education is everyone’s right and everyone’s home work to make it true.

She is back....

It’s been a long time she was “hiding” and last week she came up brilliantly with her new monolog titled “Surti and Three Sawunggaling”. I am talking about Ine Febriyanti, one of Indonesian young actress. She played controversially in Beth (2000) and since then actives in theatre.

Last week she performed Javanese widow in “Surti and Three Sawunggaling” monolog, took place in Salihara. Sawunggaling is a kind of myth bird that believed to be mirror bird, reflecting other attitude. That monolog brought out widow’s sorrow after her husband executed by Holland troop. She spent her time doing ‘batik’ three sawunggaling, that given name Anjani, Baira and Cawir. At night, they were believed could release from fabric, flying among the darkness. They told what they had seen, how the troop killed her husband friend and that her husband had an affair with a younger woman.

That monolog was quite hard coz she had to bring many characters which are Surti, Anjani, Baira, Cawir, her husband and her husband mistress. Surti, the main role, was presented somehow moderately not to much Javanese, but it was Javanese. When came into sawunggaling characters, she nicely pretended to be bird in gentle, beautiful yet decisive motions. The white plain stage turned into red when Anjani on stage, blue when Baira and purple when Cawir on. The sound was just enough to support the monolog, and yet Ine was singing gending. Overall, congratulation for Ine come back and big appreciation for the director and script writer as well.

Eat Pray n Love

Can't wait to watch it! Finally, me, friends, mom, n my mom's friends went to 21 on Saturday night. Others are having date with their couples, while we, girls only, know exactly how to spend Saturday night together. Eat Pray n Love brings sort of euphoria for most of us... Christine Hakim, Bali things.. Actually it’s not the first time Hollywood taking location in Indonesia. Instead many films take picture in Indonesia, though I don't know for sure it was or it was not. Do you remember Anacondas the Hunt for The Blood Orchid? Not the one with Jennifer Lopez's cast I guess. How about the Island of Dr Moreau? It was said that the laboratory located in one of remote islands around Indonesia.

Well, back to Eat Pray n Love. Julia Robert is an astonishing actress. But at that movie, she rarely appears in make up, so her wrinkle seems quite obvious. Unfortunately, James Franco, the Peter Parker's best friend, cannot compete with her acting, I think. Javier Bardem, who finally won Julia Robert's love are far from my imagination. I look forward that Felipe's character will be played by Antonio Banderas or George Cloney, hehehe.. It sound cliché, but hard to admit there is quite a few movie that could successfully bring alive the stories like it told in novel.

Bali is the last destination for Liz. I'm quite proud the movie shows the beauty of Bali, I hope there will be more and more films taking place in Indonesia, not only in Bali. If only Hollywood know how rich and beautiful this country. One thing, Christine Hakim is rockin'. She could reveal the truly acting quality of Indonesian actresses.

*I am not a movie critic, I am just saying... sorry for inconvenience

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

In the late 66, Michael Douglas still looks charming. Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan could mere counterbalance his acting. There is Susan Sarandon also as a cameo. I thought it would full of conspiracy and complexity, but I found it was merely a family drama that just happened in 2008's crisis. Though, it told a lot about moral hazard and ruthless games in capital market. Quite boring, but I appreciate Shia's attempt playing serious role. What I like most is Carey hair style; I think pixie crop hair will be trend in 2011. Fresh and light!

Here are some interesting quotes I found:

  1. If there's one thing I learned in prison it's that money is not the prime commodity in our lives... time is.
  2. The mother of all evil is speculation.
  3. Stop telling lies about me and I'll stop telling the truth about you.
  4. Money is a bitch that never sleeps!
  5. Every thief has an excuse

SBY vs Mr. Sebastian Pinera

Yesterday, all people around the globe turn sentimental watching live rescue of 33 miners in Chile that had been trapped 700m underground for 69 days. One by one, trapped miners was lifted by capsule to the surface. What a dramatic and relieved moments. And there was Mr. Sebastian Pinera, the President of Chile who was standing there, witnessing every second of rescuing, till the last victim that las for more than 22 hours. He didn't hesitate to hug every trapped miner though they had not take bath for more than 2 months!

The President of Chile had promised to do the best to rescue the trapped miners. His seriousness not only had raised spirit of trapped miners and their family, but also the whole nation. The success of this mission has unite Chile and crown Mr. Sebastian Pinera as a national hero.

Many local news channels has compared SBY's act with Mr. Sebastian Pinera. Ten days after the Wasior flood tragedy that had taken away more than 132 people, SBY came to visit. Is it too late or not? Before that, SBY had plenty time including watching friendship soccer match between Indonesia with Paraguay. Instead, he took a picture with the team. Is Wasior tragedy not a matter for him so that he choosed to watch the game instead of focusing in giving first aid for Wasior victims and survivals. In fact, he stated that it was national disaster, nothing related to HPH misuse or illegal logging. OMG! Is that so simple??

To welcome SBY arrival, local gov't got busy to prepare the road and everything related to President’s safety. How come?? Why he didn't go there secretly to diminish any unnecessary protocol, giving courage and sympathy to people there?? Since SBY is concern about political image, how come he missed about it??

Let's Join Snobber!

We have to be proud that batik was chosen as one of world heritage and October 2 was pronounced to be Batik's Day. This year October 2 fell at Saturday, but I did wear batik on the previous Friday. One of my favorite batik is Batik Snob. And I was lucky to have one of its collections. Batik Snob is not like other batik. Like its motto CHIC, COLORFUL & COMFORTABLE, this batik brings confident to all Indonesian women. It has nice cut, a brilliant color combination and an unusual pattern. Every modern woman will love it. But it is difficult to have it, believe me! Not because it is unaffordable, it just needs extra effort.

To have its collections, we have to be its friends on facebook first. It sells its collection only on facebook. Its collection is one of a kind, and every piece is made just one. You will feel so special. There are bolero, cocktail dress, kimono blouse, etc. It suits for anyone and any occasion. Batik Snob releases its collections twice a week, usually @ 12 pm, and only around 10 to 15 pieces a day. Yet, lately it uploads at afternoon as well to facilitate those in different time zone. At that time, it is difficult to open its page, because everyone is competing to 'book' the desired one. And unluckily, I never get the first place to book. But fortunately, I won one of itscompetitions! Yippiie...

I'm single, 27 n happy

What's crossing in your mind when someone told you that he/she is single? Last time when I said on my facebook that I was single, many friends commented. They asked me whether i had broken up with my boy friend. Some of them cheer me up. Is it so pathetic to be single when you are 27 years old? For a woman, I may add. I am very happy with what I have reached so far. Yet, I'm not upset. In fact, I'm overwhelmed with their attention.

Single, in my opinion, is a status that defines you are not married. Wether you are with somebody or not, it's a diffeerent subject. So proudly I confirm that I'm 27, single n happy.

Let's sing together

Aku baik-baik saja

Menikmati hidup yang aku punya

Hidupku sangat sempurna

I'm single and very happy

Jakarta Street's Madness

First time going to Salemba by train, yippiee... Jakarta's traffic make me sick, thus I look for another mode. The nearest stasion from my place is St. Tanjung Barat. It takes less than 5 minutes by angkot, but the biggest problem is crossing the road. There isn't any pedestrian bridge nearby. And all car and motocycle are at high speed from Ps. Minggu's direction. It requires big guts to cross over, let alone if you are alone. It needs more that 15 minutes to wait and risk to be hit by car or motocycle. I would think twice if wanna go by train again. Dear gov't, if you wanna us to utilize public transportation , please consider the supporting facilities also. We wanna safety, we don't wanna risk our life.

What is remaining in our nation?

Indonesia gov’t released Malaysian fishermen that obviously broke Indonesia shore territory. This act triggered many debate throughout nation. Gov’t impressed practicing barter so that personnel of Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries that caught by Polisi Diraja Malaysia could be freed. Is gov’t of Indonesia so powerless to uphold its sovereignty?

Public stupefied when hundreds of valuable artifacts in Sonobudoyo Museum Jogjakarta have disappeared. It could have been moved abroad or in collector warehouse. No one able appraise the loss since those collections was priceless except national history. Nothing neither heritage nor pride remains for later generation.

That case was not the first time. Many museum collections around Indonesia have been stolen and counterfeited. Lack of security is the main cause. Some spots are not equipped with CCTV. Do not ever imagine its condition like abroad that have extra protection with night with red infra light. Some cases indicated involvement of internal party. They got large compensation for the information. Once again, tummy business defeats nationalism.

Indonesia has lots of poor museum. The collections are less treatment, poor lighting and covered by duct. How come expecting many visitor if does not dress up? If there are fewer visitors then there is less income exclude gov’t budget. Employee prosperity is marginal and temptation to misuse information, access and authority is getting bigger.

To attract many visitors, museums need to change. Start with advertisement and promotion. Internet is a robust media to introduce the collections to public. Coming to the museum, visitor is not only indulged by artistic display. Public want more, they love stories. Every object has stories behind. Stories will visualize human imagination, flash back hundred years ago. For instance the gold masks from Hayam Wuruk the Majapahit conqueror that worshiped for his grandmother, Queen Gayatri. That mask could generate many stories without leaving historical facts, just like famed Malin Kundang stories. This stories is much interesting, especially for kid, and easy to keep in mind. Indonesia has abundance of talented story teller to be involved. Leaving museum visitor not just bring souvenir but also stories. Museum could package that story collection into handy pocket book.

Stories in form of legend or tale can generate youth awareness and care for national history. It is so pathetic finding out that our children are much familiar with Ben Ten relative to Sangkuriang.

Tautology

Which one come first ayam or telur? telur or ayam? This tautology also comes up with gridlock and motorcycle ideas. Does motor cycle cause gridlock? Or due to gridlock so that motorist flourished in Jakarta? Is it correct to ban motorcycles from certain roads? How about back to the past riding bicycle? Maybe it takes decades before Governor Fauzi Bowo starts constructing bicycles lane in Jakarta.

back to YOU

You were here, before I realize
Your love is real, before I know what love is
Every second your love is only made for me
Sealed in every sunshine
As mild as morning coffee, refresh each part of me

Your love like a sun
So genuine that never expect any return
Your love is spacious
So broad that never get less or shrink
Your love as solid as coral
Never turn to somebody else, standing still just for me

You teach me how to take and gve
You show me the beauty of life trough your love stance
Your immense love
Your greatest love, how come I cheat on you?

But another love coming and greeeting
Offering a new color in a different impression
And I got easily trapped within
Humanly love that alluring, yet could be so sore
Teach me another meaning of love words
Mortal, temporary dan deadly

Only your love is timeless
Only yours is truthful
Accept me in my nudity, bluntness, and weakness
Only you who embrace me in weariness and slenderness
And I was the most stupid living who ignored and forgot you
When you never even once leave me
And you smile wider welcoming me back
Last night...
When I cried...
Knocking your door...
My gorgeous prince,
Allah

being a child

There’s an idiom says being old is something you can’t avoid, but be grown up is a choice. I don't fully agree with this. I think being grown up is a must, consciously or not we are forced to be grown up. By who? by condition, by surrounding, by life. What I mean by a choice is become always a child. Everyone has a child inside. Sometimes it’s pop up, especially when we tired acting grown up facing the world. No one can fake themselves all the time, there’s no such perfect human being. But how about being a child every time? There’s no black and white, yet there are green, yellow, red, blue, etc. There is no tears and sadness. Seems so pathetic? May be. There will be always tears, anger, sadness, doubt, etc. But easy to come, easy to go. No revenge, no disappointment. Can grown up people be like that? Can we? It’s not only us who grown up, but our responsibility and problems as well. We are in the middle of complexity. Would you always want to be trapped in or just move away? Can we? I think that’s the time when we have to make a choice.

MIDNIGHT (sale) (earth) HOUR

Sabtu malam, tanggal 27 Maret 2010, kita gelap-gelapan selama satu jam mulai dari jam setengah sembilan sampai setengah sepuluh buat ikutan "Earth Hour". Kita ikhlaskan sebentar melewatkan satu jam bersama Choky Sihotang di Take Me Out. Semalem jalanan ibu kota sepi, kemana orang-orang?
Apa ga capek malem-malem gitu rebutan barang. Kita aja capek ngliatin mereka. Kita ga jadi beli apa-apa, malah nonton "How To Train Your Dragon" and it's worth.. I love u Toothless

my eyes

My friend said that i have more white part in my eyes. Heh? what did he said? how many color in the eye anyway? But, it bothered me and dragged me to the mirror. I think i understood what he tried to say and i found some facts about my eyes.
first fact : i have big and round eyes
second fact : (likely to be assumption) i rarely look up when talking to people, thus the iris centered at the upper part
third fact : my iris is smaller than average

i just found out that the white part is called sclera.

waiting for

I can freeze the time

But I have no power to freeze this feeling

Growing bigger and stronger, reaping my heart

You give me something I never ask

But I don't mind at all

My logic has been silenced up

This eyes and this heart have been locked

Trapped in complex conspiracy called love

Love doesn't merely belong to Romeo and Juliet

Every mankind has its own love

And this one will survive a hundred mile apart

Better yet can wait another thousand days

Coz this was specially made excluding expire dates

Waiting for something is suck, but you

There is no question to be answered, but love

Love is in air

Singing beautiful song

Bubbling

And smiling

I need not than love to wait for you
